PsoNurse is a study in cooperation between Ghent University and the University Hospital of Ghent that aims to investigate the needs and expectations of psoriasis patients in ambulatory care, especially regarding the role of a specialist nurse in psoriasis treatment.
With this study, we want to gain insight into how psoriasis patients can best be supported in the treatment of their skin disease. Psoriasis is a skin disease that often has a physical, social and emotional impact and has an impact on your daily life. In addition, patients have a higher risk of other disorders such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. To treat all these aspects with the necessary attention, a dermatologist is usually consulted. Specialist nurses can make an important contribution to this care by working with the patient on certain of these topics.
During this study, we want to find out what the patients’ needs are and how a specialized nurse could help addressing those needs. The ultimate aim of the study is therefore to investigate how a specialized nurse can support psoriasis patients in their psoriasis treatment and lifestyle.
The research consists of two main parts. In the first part, patients are interviewed about the needs and expectations they have regarding the specialist nurse. The second part consists of various questionnaires that address social support, quality of life, lifestyle, and questions regarding psoriasis care.
